Snow Icicle Card

December 4, 2008

This card is STINKIN CUTE! I totally cased the beauty from one of my stamping sisters. I found it online and I’m sorry but I can’t give credit because I don’t know where. What I love most about this card is the ICICLES!

This is one of the card designs for this month’s card club so I made the icicles for everyone in advance so they would be dry and ready to go! Yes, you read that correctly I MADE the icicles - way cool. This is actually a technique we learned 2 years ago at Convention. It was one of those moments when you thought all the air had been sucked out of the room as a couple thousand demonstrators caught their breath at the magic! I LOVE THOSE MOMENTS!!

Anyway, all you need to make these is some crystal effects, dazzling diamonds glitter and regular ol’ wax paper. Take the crystal effects and draw a kind thick line first. Then “pull down” with the tip for the actual icicle part. Sprinkle liberally with dazzling diamonds, shake off excess and allow to dry. The result are these fabulous icicles  which are sure to add bling to whatever project you are making!

Think outside the box with this one because you can make them as long as you wish. I think Shelli made some that year and used them as an embellishment at the edge of a lid on a altered Christmas box. I think they are awesome and so did all my card clubbies. We practiced making them all night so they’d know how to once they were home! Ladies, I hope you are using these this winter season - send me some of your samples :)

Scrap Paper Storage

December 3, 2008

Please tell me I’m not the only one who can’t part with paper scraps?!? I’m convinced that I’ll be able to use all those small bits again somewhere along the way. Unfortunately until this point I’ve not had a way to organize them. So I’ve just been dumping them into a container like this …

Needless to say this isn’t the only bin like this that I own! Since Patrick has agreed to move out of “our” office (let’s be honest, he had a tiny little place to sit and the rest was all STAMP paraphanelia!) and take his computer upstairs in the playroom I have more space for storage. So I decided to find a way to organize these tubs of paper so I might actually use them. Especially now that I have my Big Shot - scraps are fabulous with that little baby - I want to be able to see what I have easily!

Here’s what I’ve come up with to sort and store the scraps…

These will fit under the desk where I sit now so I’ll have easy acces to them but they won’t be taking up valuable real estate. I have a drawer for each Stampin’ Up! color family, one for Whisper White and Very Vanilla, one for Neutrals, one for In-Colors, one for Designer Series Paper, and the last one is for all Retired papers.

I’m excited that I have a plan now I just have to sort those bins! Believe it or not I have already taken a lot out of that black one and it looks like it hasn’t been touched! It might take a while but I’m already using the bins for classes and clubs as I prep. Let’s hope it works!
